Fall agricultural activities perfect for family fun

Colorado

Fall is the perfect time to experience Colorado agricultural activities such as pumpkin patches and corn mazes. To help people explore agritourism in the state, the Colorado Department of Agriculture lists a variety of seasonal activities online at www.coloradoagriculture.com.

"There is a chill in the air, and families are looking for fun fall activities," said Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. "There is nothing like crunching through a corn maze or watching a child pick out that perfect pumpkin."

The online list features corn mazes across the state as well as pumpkin festivals. The site also lists wineries, farmers' markets, birding trails, agricultural festivals and dude ranches.

According to a recent survey conducted by Colorado State University in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Agriculture, 45 of 64 Colorado counties hosted agritourism visitors in 2006, with farm activities as the top draw.

Pumpkin tip: When selecting your pumpkin, choose clean, well-shaped pumpkins with no cracks in the rind and avoid pumpkins with soft spots or decay. More than just a beautiful decoration, pumpkins are nutritious. They are fat free, sodium free, a good source of Vitamin C and high in Vitamin A.
