A birthday prayer for mom
Father, how great Your grace abounds!
You sent Your Son to save us.
And You blessed us, Lord, another way
with the mother that You gave us.
A rose among the cockleburs,
with Dad and me, and Ron and Ken,
but she always seemed to hold her own
in a household filled with men.
With bull ropes in the living room
and tracks across her floors,
we were always bringin' critters in
that You made for out-of-doors.
I know she had her hands full
with me and my two brothers,
but three boys just weren't quite enough,
we drug in several others.
And our dogs slept in her flowerbeds,
and my goats grazed on her lawn,
but Mom just took it all in stride.
She could always carry on.
She made us go to church, Lord,
'til we went there on our own.
It wasn't just her words, Lord.
It's the life that we were shown.
Yes, Lord, today we thank You,
for her righteous, faithful life.
She honored You in service
as a mother and a wife.
But, sometimes, she did her own thing,
She loved to paint in oil.
And several times she traveled,
far off to foreign soil.
And she served our schools for many years
as a member of the Board,
then, trained and worked as an LPN.
You helped her to do it, Lord.
Well, we're all grown with kids of our own,
and the years keep passing by,
and Mom just keeps on living life.
She's not afraid to try.
Why, she told me just the other day,
she enrolled in a Spanish course.
I guess, Lord, lifetime learning
is something You'd endorse.
Lord, it's hard for me to grasp
she's reaching eighty now,
but she'll live life to the fullest,
just as long as You allow.
Give her peace and happiness.
Walk with her every day.
And use her every talent, Lord,
That's always been Your way.
And, if she starts to worry, Lord,
just tap her on the shoulder.
Let her know You're in control,
and You'll be there to hold her.
Well, Lord, we thank You for Your time.
You're busier than we know.
Just wanted to tell You "Thanks for Mom"
from Ron and Ken and Joe.
Amen
