St. Onge livestock auctionThe St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 4,259 head Oct. 26, compared 3,366 head last week and 4,323 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds sold steady to $3 higher with the most increase on lighter weight calves. Steer calves over 600 pounds sold mostly steady, with instances of $1 lower. Yearling steers and heifers plus heifer calves over 600 pounds were not well tested. Buyer activity and demand were good for cattle under 600 pounds with a percentage of cattle suitable for grazing. Demand was moderate for heavier weights and fleshy offerings. Receipts were comprised of 65% steers, 2% feeder bulls and 33% heifers with 19% weighing over 600 pounds.
