Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls Sheep Auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,593 head of sheep and goats Oct. 29, compared to 804 head last week and 1,688 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs and slaughter ewes sold steady. No trend was applicable on feeder lambs due to the limited comparable sales, however a steady to firm undertone prevailed. Demand was good on all classes, especially slaughter ewes. Quality of offerings better than previous weeks, feeder lambs in particular. Receipts included about 65% slaughter lambs, 11% feeder lambs, 9% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. The sale included a goat special. Buyer attendance was moderate with good demand on quality consignments. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 26 head, 122 lbs., 89.25; 136 to 146 lbs., 92.50 to 94.50 (93.48). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 117 to 128 lbs., 88.25 to 89.00 (88.43); 133 to 147 lbs., 88.75 to 93.75 (91.43). Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 11 head, 164 lbs., 87.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 49 head, 109 lbs., 86.25; 22 head, 112 lbs., 88.50. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 16 head, 156 lbs., 30.50; 7 head, 171 lbs., 31.50. Utility 1 to 2, 120 to 138 lbs., 18.50 to 22.50 (20.81). Cull 1, 17 head, 118 to 131 lbs., 15.00 to 17.00 (16.37). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 15 head, 66 lbs., 106.00; 32 head, 78 lbs., 101.00; 87 to 88 lbs., 97.50 to 99.50 (98.75); 90 to 94 lbs., 90.00 to 95.50 (93.52). Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 54 lbs., 90.00; 5 head, 74 lbs., 84.00; 14 head, 104 lbs., 87.00. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 50 to 59 lbs., 91.00 to 97.00 (95.71); 14 head, 60 lbs., 98.00; 73 to 77 lbs., 91.00.
