Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,177 head Oct. 25, compared to 5,657 head last week and 3,154 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs under 70 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Lambs above 70 pounds sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold $1 to $3 higher with most improvement on Utility and Cull ewes. Buyer demand was moderate to good for all classes. Several strings of replacement ewes throughout the offering. The offering 77% feeder lambs, 23% slaughter lambs.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 160 to 166 lbs., 24.50 to 25.25 (25.16). Good 3 to 4, 5 head, 201 lbs., 18.25. Utility 1 to 2, 260 head, 147 lbs., 22.00. Cull 1, 259 head, 131 lbs., 17.75.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 50 to 59 lbs., 117.50 to 123.00 (121.24); 60 to 69 lbs., 110.75 to 119.25 (114.89); 71 lbs., 110.25 ewe lambs; 74 to 76 lbs., 106.75 to 108.00 (107.49); 82 to 89 lbs., 98.00 to 102.75 (100.62); 92 to 99 lbs., 97.00 to 99.75 (98.83); 102 to 108 lbs., 93.75 to 96.25 (94.75); 20 head, 140 to 142 lbs., 88.50. Medium and large frame 2, 44 to 45 lbs., 114.50 to 115.00 (114.70); 7 head, 78 lbs., 101.25; 42 head, 102 lbs., 92.50. Small and medium frame 1, 26 head, 121 lbs., 89.25.

Replacement ewes: Whitefaced, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, per head, 350 head, yearling 125 to 150 lbs., 130.00 to 145.00; 141 head, 2 to 3 years old, 145 to 155 lbs., 95.00 to 106.00; 329 head, 2 to 5 years old, 150 to 175 lbs., 80.00 to 90.00; 92 head, 5 to 6 years old, 180 lbs., 67.00 to 69.00; 349 head, ss to aged, 150 to 165 lbs., 57.50 to 64.00; 137 head, aged, 130 to 150 lbs., 45.00 to 46.00.

Replacement bucks: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 200-lb. Suffolk lambs 330.00 per head; 2 head, 240-lb. Suffolk yearlings 325.00 per head; 4 head, 200-lb Whitefaced yearlings 170.00 per head.

Aged slaughter bucks: 17 head, fleshy, 250 to 275 lbs., 23.00 to 26.00; 9 head, medium fleshed 210 lbs., 10.00.
