McAlester livestock auction reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 3,100 head Oct. 30, compared to 1,650 head last week and 2,400 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady with exception of 600- to 700-pound steers that sold $2 to $3 lower. Stocker and feeder heifers were $2 to $3 lower. There was a good attendance of buyers who were active on trade. Stocker cattle were in poor demand due to lack of wheat grazing. Feeder cattle were under fire with uncertainty on corn for feed. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts included of 46% steers, 45% heifers with 30% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 lower, with a good attendance of buyers. There was moderate demand for long bred cows, no test on pairs. A total of 450 cows and bulls sold with 46% to packers.
