Joplin regional market report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin Mo., reported receipts of 6,000 head Oct. 29, compared to 3,914 head last week and 4,977 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $2 lower, over 600 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Demand and supply were moderate. Calf trade opened lower, but gained momentum all day, yearling trade was lower as buyers were working with a lower fed cattle market and higher corn prices again. A noticeably higher percentage of yearlings and wean vac calves were in the offering than in the previous sale. The feeder supply included 46% steers, 37% heifers, 13% bulls, with 41% over 600 pounds.
