Dry beans combining ahead of normalWyoming Warm days and cool nights prevailed during the week ending Oct. 28, and soil moisture levels above normal, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Wyoming Field Office, Oct. 29. Warm temperatures were welcomed to the state last week. Some precipitation was reported by every station across the state except one. Conditions allowed for last minute field work and repairs to be completed. Average temperatures were in the 40's and ranged from right at normal to 11.4 degrees above normal. Low temperatures were mostly in the 20s with a few teens. Highs were mostly in the 60s and 70s. Top soil moisture levels were reported 53 percent adequate or better, 14 points above normal for this time of year. Sub soil moisture levels were 3 points above normal for the adequate or better categories at 28 percent. Stock water conditions were 69 percent adequate or better, 16 points higher than reported two weeks ago. There were 5.9 days suitable for field work. Corn crop conditions remain steady. Almost all of the corn was mature. Corn harvested for grain was 13 points behind normal with 30 percent complete. The warm weather helped boost the sugarbeet harvest to 79 percent complete. Nearly all of the dry bean crop had been combined at 98 percent which was 7 points above normal. The 2008 winter wheat conditions were virtually unchanged from last week at 93 percent good or better. Range and pasture conditions changed only a little between categories. Forty-three percent of range and pastures were reported in fair condition, 25 percent in good condition and 2 percent in excellent condition. Date: 10/31/07
