West Plains cattle salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,000 head Nov. 20, compared to 3,150 head last week and 1,700 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds traded $1 to $4 higher, over 700 pounds not well tested. The supply and demand were moderate. Quality may not have ran as deep as the last auction's feeder offering but buyers seemed ready to fill what orders they had in light of this week's holiday to shortened trade. Several of those buyers even commented at the end of the day that all of the purchases they would be making were complete. The feeder market was also supported by encouraging cattle futures and recent stronger boxed beef trade. The feeder supply consisted of 52% steers and bulls, 47% heifers and 1% Holstein steers, with 20% of the total offering weighed over 600 pounds.
