Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,601 head Nov. 19, compared to 1,214 head last week and 823 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, the bulk of the slaughter lambs sold steady to weak while exhibiting less attractive quality than last week's offering. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady to $2 lower. Feeder lambs under 100 pounds sold steady to $1 higher while those over 100 pounds sold $4 higher. Buyer attendance good with good demand. Receipts included about 40% slaughter lambs. 33% feeder lambs, 19% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 130 to 140 lbs., 93.75 to 94.50 (94.27). Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 23 head, 124 lbs., 92.75; 134 to 136 lbs., 92.00 to 92.25 (92.08). Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 116 to 123 lbs., 86.25 to 88.75 (87.25). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 118 to 128 lbs., 88.25 to 89.25 (88.58); 130 to 148 lbs., 89.00 to 93.00 (90.08); 24 head, 151 lbs., 88.25. Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 10 head, 174 lbs., 85.50. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 8 head, 103 lbs., 85.00; 115 to 125 lbs., 85.00 to 87.50 (86.28); 134 to 137 lbs., 88.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 18 head, 155 to 159 lbs., 32.00 to 32.50 (32.42); 5 head, 176 lbs., 30.50. Good 2 to 4, 173 to 194 lbs., 23.00 to 28.50 (25.87); 6 head, 208 lbs., 28.00. Utility 1 to 2, 138 to 140 lbs., 20.25 to 21.50 (20.37). Cull 1, 130 to 137 lbs., 16.00 to 19.50 (18.49).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 73 to 79 lbs., 96.00 to 98.00 (97.71); 87 to 88 lbs., 92.50 to 94.75 (94.59); 349 head, 112 lbs., 90.50. Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 66 lbs., 108.00; 13 head, 78 lbs., 80.00; 4 head, 81 lbs., 85.00; 19 head, 91 lbs., 86.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 20 head, 55 to 57 lbs., 95.00 to 98.00 (96.77). Selection 2, 6 head, 58 lbs., 50.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 91 to 116 lbs., 45.00 to 46.50 (45.72). Selection 2, 117 to 128 lbs., 35.00 to 39.00 (38.26).
