Nebraska students tour Taiwan

Nebraska

Three Nebraska youth are visiting Taiwan in middle November to learn about the country's agricultural industry.

The visit comes following a trip to Nebraska by three Taiwanese students in July. During the Taiwanese students' trip, they attended the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute coordinated by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. During NAYI, the Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Kansas City invited three NAYI delegates to tour Taiwan.

This is the fourth year Nebraska students have been invited to Taiwan. NDA Director Greg Ibach hopes the student exchange program will continue, and will benefit agriculture in both countries.

The students left for Taiwan on Nov. 9 and will return to Nebraska on Nov. 18. While in Taiwan, the students are staying at an agricultural high school, touring the campus, meeting with Taiwanese students, attending a conference on agricultural education, visiting farms and observing several agricultural research institutes.

The students will be asked to share their experiences with the delegates to the 2008 NAYI.

The three students currently in Taiwan are:

--Kelly Kuenning from Imperial. She is a senior at Chase County High School and is involved in FFA and 4-H. Kelly's parents are Jerry and Kathy Kuenning.

--Robert Hecox from Gothenburg. He is a senior at Gothenburg Public High School and is active in 4-H and the Gothenburg Trap Team. Robert's parents are Pat and Deb Hecox.

--Lance Wach from Hayes Center. He is a senior at Hays Center High School and currently serves as president of the Hayes Center FFA chapter. Lance's parents are Loran and Nancy Wach.

NDA, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City, and the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation are sponsoring the trip.
