Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Nov. 10, totaled 11,200 head, compared to 12,475 head last week and 9,825 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer calves sold steady to $3 higher, with instances of $4 to $5 higher on 400- to 450-pound steers at Torrington. Heifer calves were steady to $2 lower, except at Riverton were $1 to $3 higher, instances $4 to $5 higher, yearlings had no good price comparison. Demand was good. Direct trading was slow. There were not enough comparable sales for an adequate market test, but the few sales were steady. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were light to moderate with yearling cattle in short supply. Unless otherwise noted direct prices were current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 60% of the supply, heifers 40%, with 26% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1725 head of the total receipts.
