Springfield cattle sales reportThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 3,079 head Nov. 7, compared to 2,409 head last week and 1,999 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $2 to $5 lower, yearlings were steady to $2 lower, Holsteins were $3 to $5 lower. Demand was moderate to light, the supply was heavy. A special wean-vac sale was held in conjunction with the regular feeder cattle sale. Cattle futures closed on the negative side, and fed cattle bids were several dollars apart from the asking price. Some profit-taking in the corn pit pulled corn futures lower, but contracts were all over $4, except the spot month. The feeder supply included 35% steers, 6% Holsteins, 40% heifers, 19% bulls, with 37% over 600 pounds.
