RMFU urges U.S. Senate to adopt compromise farm billColorado On Oct. 18 Rocky Mountain Farmers Union President Kent Peppler urged the Senate to move forward and adopt the compromise farm bill currently being considered by the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee. "We have communicated our opinions to Senator Ken Salazar. He is a key member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and we are confident that he will help get the compromise bill passed," Peppler said. "There are parts of the compromise bill we do not support, but the bill provides urgently needed legislation to address important agricultural concerns, such as permanent disaster assistance, mandatory country-of-origin labeling, conservation, rural development and livestock competition reforms. Getting the farm legislation passed through the Senate and into conference committee where the final farm bill will be written is more important to American agriculture than arguing about details. We can't leave farmers and ranchers in the lurch." Date: 11/15/07
