Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,105 head Nov. 8, compared to 3,313 head last week and 3,660 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 lower. Feeder lambs under 90 pounds sold steady to $3 higher, offerings over 90 pounds sold $4 to $6 lower. Receipts were comprised of about 80% feeder lambs, 19% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 72 head, 173 lbs., 23.00. Good 3 to 4, 31 head, 204 lbs., 17.25. Utility 1 to 2, 142 to 157 lbs., 20.75 to 23.50 (21.31). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 210 head, 133 lbs., 18.25. Cull 1, 5 head, 113 lbs., 11.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 53 to 58 lbs., 129.25 to 134.00 (130.64); 60 to 69 lbs., 121.50 to 130.00 (125.45); 73 to 79 lbs., 110.50 to 113.50 (111.66); 23 head, 78 lbs., 108.25 fleshy; 80 to 88 lbs., 103.50 to 107.50 (105.88); 92 to 98 lbs., 94.50 to 103.00 (99.36); 49 head, 93 lbs., 97.25 blackface; 100 to 103 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00 (94.52); 19 head, 102 lbs., 93.75 blackface; 10 head, 124 lbs., 86.00 fleshy; 13 head, 131 lbs., 85.25 fleshy. Medium frame 1 to 2, 72 head, 46 lbs., 121.00. Slaughter bucks: 9 head, 254 lbs., 21.25 fleshy; 6 head, 199 lbs., 10.25 medium. Open replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, price per head, 159 to 162 lbs., 1 to 3 years old, 85.00 to 95.00; 80 head, 141 lbs., 2 to 4 years old, 70.00; 144 to 169 lbs., solid to broken 40.00 to 57.50. Replacement bucks: Large frame 1 to 2, tested, price per head, 176 to 224 lbs., 320.00 to 400.00 blackface; 9 head, 203 lbs., 220.00 to 250.00 whiteface; 14 head, 156 lbs., 125.00 to 250.00 blackface.
