International Texas Longhorn Association dedicates headquartersThe International Texas Longhorn Association held dedication ceremonies Oct. 18 for the newly completed headquarters office building. This special event was staged during the 18th Annual Championship Show and Convention. Many past presidents, donors and members were in attendance for the exciting and long awaited celebration. The new facility is located on top of a limestone and Juniper covered hill at 1600 Texas Drive overlooking the Somervell County Exposition Center where the 2007 show and meetings took place. ITLA was formed in 1990 to establish a registry to preserve, honor, promote, and perpetuate the great Texas Longhorn breed of cattle. History was created when this first permanent office owned by a Texas Longhorn breed registry was completed. This marks a new era for the cattle that brought fame to Texas, developed the world famous American cowboy and provided the genetic foundation for the great Western ranching industry. ITLA expects the new facility to be completely paid for in the near future. Memorial stones with each donor's brand engraved on a limestone structure in front of the headquarters has provided a large part of the final funding. The spacious building site was generously donated by Larry P Smith of LS Ranches near Glen Rose, Texas. The construction was completed by Velta Homes of Midlothian, Texas. ITLA provides a breed registry, the Legacy Show System, marketing assistance, a show judge training program, educational seminars, and the "Longhorn Drover" Magazine for members.
