Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Nov. 3, totaled 12,475 head, compared to 10,600 head last week and 8,425 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer calves sold unevenly steady to $3 higher, heifer calves were steady to $2 higher, yearlings were not fully tested. Demand was good. Direct trading was slow. There were not enough comparable sales for an adequate market test, few steers were $1 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were light to moderate with yearling cattle in short supply. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 55% of the supply, heifers 45%, with 24% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 810 head of the total receipts.
