St. Onge cattle auction report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 2,959 head Nov. 2, compared to 4,259 head last week and 4,190 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steer calves under 550 pounds sold steady to $2 higher, calves over 550 pounds sold steady to $3 lower with most of the steady market occurring on calves over 600 pounds. Heifer calves sold uneven throughout the day, however trending mostly $2 to $3 lower. Yearling steers and heifers were not well tested. Demand was good to very good for top end cattle with both sets of vaccination shots, mostly moderate for remaining classes of cattle. Receipts were comprised of 61% steers and 39% heifers with 20% weighing over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 376 to 392 lbs., 143.00 to 148.00 (146.44); 403 to 406 lbs., 142.00 to 143.00 (142.43); 452 to 493 lbs., 127.00 to 136.00 (131.52); 11 head, 492 lbs., 122.25 fleshy; 504 to 537 lbs., 119.50 to 128.50 (124.48); 27 head, 518 lbs., 117.00 fleshy; 550 to 591 lbs., 110.50 to 119.00 (115.45); 600 to 640 lbs., 108.50 to 116.25 (112.47) calves; 652 to 682 lbs., 109.00 to 116.00 (113.63) calves; 8 head, 747 lbs., 109.00; 712 to 730 lbs., 102.00 to 105.00 (104.34) calves; 5 head, 813 lbs., 109.50; 9 head, 869 to 870 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00 (107.44). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 391 lbs., 130.00; 467 to 478 lbs., 122.00 to 126.00 (124.85); 530 to 537 lbs., 113.75 to 116.25 (114.43); 561 to 591 lbs., 100.50 to 109.75 (105.88); 607 to 647 lbs., 102.00 to 107.50 (105.29) calves. Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 480 to 498 lbs., 113.00 to 115.50 (114.27); 12 head, 545 lbs., 103.50. Medium 1 to 2, 8 head, 562 lbs., 100.00. Small and Medium 3 to 4, 7 head, 716 lbs., 51.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 366 to 399 lbs., 124.00 to 133.00 (127.48); 414 to 448 lbs., 113.00 to 119.50 (116.21); 451 to 488 lbs., 111.50 to 119.25 (114.49); 501 to 538 lbs., 104.00 to 112.00 (108.36); 555 to 578 lbs., 100.00 to 104.25 (102.36); 27 head, 574 lbs., 96.50 fleshy; 614 to 645 lbs., 101.50 to 103.50 (102.93) calves; 10 head, 660 to 674 lbs., 96.00 to 101.00 ( 98.97) calves; 810 to 827 lbs., 104.50 to 105.50 (105.26).
