Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,185 head Nov. 5, compared to 1,593 head last week and 1,384 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly steady. Slaughter ewes were too few to test. Due to lack of comparable sales, a trend on feeder lambs was not applicable, however a lower undertone was noted. Receipts included about 67% slaughter lambs, 27% feeder lambs, 5% slaughter ewes and the balance was miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 108 head, 143 lbs., 94.50. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 126 lbs., 88.25 to 89.25 (88.61); 13 head, 139 lbs., 88.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 130 to 147 lbs., 90.50 to 92.00 (91.23); 14 head, 154 lbs., 91.00. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 22 head, 109 lbs., 86.50; 113 to 129 lbs., 86.75 to 90.25 (88.06); 130 to 131 lbs., 88.25 to 89.50 (89.40).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 15 head, 140 lbs., 29.00. Good 2 to 4, 10 head, 195 lbs., 22.50; 14 head, 203 lbs., 23.50. Utility and Good 2 to 3, 6 head, 155 lbs., 24.00. Utility 1 to 2, 17 head, 135 lbs., 22.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 95 lbs., 95.00; 105 to 109 lbs., 84.75 to 87.50 (85.78). Medium and large frame 2, 88 to 89 lbs., 90.00 to 90.50 (90.27); 95 to 96 lbs., 86.00 to 88.00 (86.98). Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 33 lbs., 75.00 hair sheep; 28 head, 51 lbs., 75.00 hair sheep; 10 head, 67 lbs., 86.00; 10 head, 62 lbs., 75.00 hair sheep; 8 head, 77 lbs., 88.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 99 to 108 lbs., 48.50 to 52.50 (51.43).
