OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,464 head Nov. 7, compared to 4,979 head last week and 3,003 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers lightly tested and were $2 to $3 higher. Demand very good for limited numbers of feeder cattle. Steer and heifer calves were steady to $2 higher. Demand was good for calves with improved demand from wheat farmers. Several high quality calves were included with several reputation brands available as well as several cattle that are a part of the Oklahoma Quality Beef Network program. These calves have been weaned for at least 45 days, certified to have two rounds of shots and sold in co-mingled lots. These calves are also listed as value added in the report. Slaughter cows are steady to $1.50 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand moderate to good and somewhat improved over past few weeks. A total of 460 head of cows and bulls sold with 35% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, calves, 350 to 400 lbs., 140.00 to 141.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 129.00; 525 to 575 lbs., 112.50 to 119.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 107.00 to 107.50; 850 to 875 lbs., 105.00. Medium and large frame 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 106.00 to 113.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 100.00 to 101.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 107.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.50 to 106.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 490 lbs., 76.00; 525 lbs., 80.00; 775 lbs., 70.00; 1000 lbs., 64.00.

Lights, 15 head, 75 to 90% lean, 850 to 975 lbs., 44.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.00; very low, 29.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 13 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 55.50 to 58.00; high dressing, 62.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 5 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average to high blacks, 1130.00 to 1210.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average to high quality, 910.00 to 980.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 820.00 to 880.00; 9 to 10 years old, 975 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 550.00 to 690.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves, average to high blacks, 1075.00 to 1290.00; 5 years old, 950 to 1100 lbs., with 175- to 300-lb. calves, average black, bred back, 1225.00 to 1300.00.
