West Plains regional sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,242 head May 22, compared to 3,168 head last week and 3,082 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers sold unevenly steady to $2 higher, advance mainly on yearling cattle and better quality weaned calves. Heifers were unevenly steady. The supply was moderate, other than some top end calves, quality generally was not as attractive as last week. Demand was good, with yearling cattle and higher quality uniform groups of calves, especially those weaned or vaccinated continuing to attract the best interest. The supply consisted of 52% steers and 48% heifers, with nearly 33% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 134.00 to 145.50, thin 147.00 to 149.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 127.00 to 139.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 125.00 to 131.00, package weaned 133.00, some fleshy 112.00 to 121.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 123.00, fleshy/soft 112.00 to 113.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 114.00 to 122.00, lot 40 head fancy 654 lbs., 118.00, package thin 661 lbs., 120.00, soft calves 110.00 to 113.50; few 830 to 860 lbs., 100.50 to 105.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 300 to 400 lbs., 130.00 to 146.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 126.00 to 140.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 120.50 to 127.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 117.00 to 129.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 111.00 to 121.00, few fleshy 105.00 to 109.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 107.50 to 115.00; few 725 to 740 lbs., 107.50 to 108.00; 800 to 835 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 350 to 400 lbs., 127.00 to 135.00, package thin/weaned 366 lbs., 149.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 121.00 to 129.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00, package thin 581 lbs., 116.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00; some 785 lbs., 101.00 to 104.50; 800 to 860 lbs., 99.50 to 101.50. Medium frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 123.00 to 130.00; few 540 to 550 lbs., 112.00 to 115.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, lot 520 lbs., 87.00; couple lots 835 to 877 lbs., 80.00 to 82.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 125.00 to 130.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 112.00 to 122.50, package thin 400 lbs., 129.00, several fancy 460 to 475 lbs., 122.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.50 to 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 108.00, string 51 head 623 lbs., fancy 113.00.
