Tulia livestock market report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 7,559 head May 21, compared to 3,947 head last week and 3,449 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 825 pounds and feeder heifers under 725 pounds were steady to firm, heavier weight offerings were steady to $2 lower, with instances of $3 lower on steers. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady. Trade was active. Demand was good. Several consignments of feeder cattle came off wheat pasture in moderate flesh conditions. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 550- to 875-pound feeder steers and 500 to 800 pound heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 99% and slaughter cows and bulls 1% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 65% of the run, heifers 45%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 91%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 320 lbs., 159.00; lot 442 lbs., thin 145.50, package 454 lbs., 144.00, package 421 lbs., fleshy 125.00; load 525 lbs., thin 138.00, 500 to 600 lbs., 121.00 to 127.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 111.00 to 113.25, lot 618 lbs., thin 119.50, small lot 660 lbs., fleshy 108.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 107.85 to 112.25, 750 to 800 lbs., 106.25 to 110.00; 800 to 840 lbs., 104.50 to 106.60, 840 to 900 lbs., 100.85 to 102.50; 900 to 985 lbs., 92.50 to 99.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 426 lbs., 125.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 117.00 to 124.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 111.00, 693 lbs., fleshy 104.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 99.50 to 103.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 350 to 400 lbs., 120.00 to 124.00; part load 432 lbs., thin 121.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 107.50, part load 605 lbs., thin 113.50, few 685 to 700 lbs., fleshy 102.00 to 102.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 96.00 to 100.50, two lots 704 lbs., 102.75 to 106.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 114.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 107.00 to 114.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 105.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 97.50 to 104.00, package 780 lbs., fleshy 92.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, small lot 591 lbs., 99.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 48.00 to 52.25. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 53.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 59.00; 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 52.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 58.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 50.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 55.50 to 58.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 48.75 to 52.50; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 45.00 to 47.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1700 to 1875 lbs., 66.50 to 67.00; high dressing, 1715 lbs., individual 70.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged 1000 to 1600 lbs., cows 2 to 7 months bred, 600.00 to 810.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1350 lbs., cows with 80- to 200-lb. calves, 800.00 to 1085.00 per pair; aged, 850 to 1200 lbs., cows with 75- to 200-lb. calves, 600.00 to 800.00 per pair.
