Tulia livestock market report
The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 7,559 head May 21, compared to 3,947 head last week and 3,449 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers under 825 pounds and feeder heifers under 725 pounds were steady to firm, heavier weight offerings were steady to $2 lower, with instances of $3 lower on steers. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady. Trade was active. Demand was good. Several consignments of feeder cattle came off wheat pasture in moderate flesh conditions. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 550- to 875-pound feeder steers and 500 to 800 pound heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 99% and slaughter cows and bulls 1% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 65% of the run, heifers 45%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 91%.
