St. Onge livestock auction
The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,108 head May 18, compared to 2,303 head last week and 873 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, St. Onge, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder cattle lightly tested, however a steady undertone was noted. Feeder cows sold $2 to $4 higher, instances $5 to $6 higher on better quality cows returning to the country. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $2 to $4 higher. Demand was good to very good on all classes. Feeder receipts included 42% steers and 58% heifers, with 48% over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 38% feeder cattle, 43% replacement cows, 6% slaughter cows and bulls with the balance pairs, bred cattle, baby calves and other miscellaneous cattle. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 446 lbs., 136.00; 31 head, 510 lbs., 134.50; 38 head, 632 lbs., 116.50 calves; 6 head, 845 lbs., 97.00. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50, few young 64.00. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1325 to 1600 lbs., 52.75 to 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 52.75 to 55.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 48.50 to 50.50; high dressing, 53.50; low dressing, 46.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1320 to 2570 lbs., 65.25 to 68.25; high dressing, 69.00 to 70.25.
