Springfield dairy sales report

The Springfield Livestock Market Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,022 head May 22, compared to 816 head last month and 668 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Springfield, Mo.

This was a special dairy heifer sale. Demand was very good. The supply was heavy with 10% springer heifers, 20% bred heifers, 45% open heifers, 2% fresh and milking cows, 3% bred and springer cows, and 3% calves. Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices per head.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 2125.00 to 2625.00; crossbreds 2050.00 to 2225.00. Approved 1750.00 to 2050.00; crossbreds 1700.00 to 1985.00. Medium 1400.00 to 1700.00; crossbreds 1200.00 to 1675.00. Common-crossbreds 300.00 to 1000.00.

Heifers: Bred three to six months, Supreme 2175.00 to 2700.00; Jerseys 1850.00 to 1900.00; crossbreds 1825.00 to 2125.00. Approved 1700.00 to 2175.00; crossbreds 1600.00 to 1825.00. Medium 1300.00 to 1690.00; crossbreds 1225.00 to 1485.00. Common 600.00 to 1150.00; crossbreds 610.00 to 1125.00. Bred one to three months, Supreme, 1875.00 to 2020.00. Approved 1500.00 to 1750.00. Medium, 1300.00 to 1475.00, Crossbreds 1100.00 to 1450.00. Common 850.00 to 1000.00.

Open heifers: Approved 230 to 300 lbs., 700.00 to 880.00; crossbreds 600.00 to 760.00; lot of 6 Jerseys at 271 lbs., for 980.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 930.00 to 1020.00, Jerseys 1030.00 to 1190.00; crossbreds 700.00 to 890.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 990.00 to 1100.00, few Jerseys 1150.00 to 1330.00; crossbreds 770.00 to 1040.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 975.00 to 1170.00, few Jerseys 1200.00 to 1375.00; crossbreds 900.00 to 1150.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 1125.00 to 1335.00; 700 to 900 lbs., 1175.00 to 1385.00. Medium 270 to 295 lbs., 480.00 to 630.00; 340 to 380 lbs., 810.00 to 950.00, few Jerseys 850.00 to 950.00; crossbreds 600.00 to 775.00; 420 to 500 lbs., 660.00 to 960.00 Crossbreds 560.00 to 685.00; common 400 to 500 lbs., crossbreds 290.00 to 490.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh and milking cows, approved 1400.00 to 1700.00 ; medium 1125.00 to 1275.00; common 500.00 to 900.00.

Springer cows: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme, individual 1800.00; approved, few 1700.00 to 1760.00; medium 1580.00 to 1685.00.

Cows: Bred one to six months, Supreme, few 1775.00 to 1825.00, individual crossbred 1975.00; approved 1425.00 to 1625.00.

Baby calves: Holstein heifers 410.00 to 460.00; holstein bulls 105.00 to 200.00; crossbred heifers 190.00 to 300.00; crossbred bulls 95.00 to 160.00.
