Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., May 21, reported receipts of 888 head of sheep and goats, compared to 607 head last week and 461 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $3 to $5 higher on a light test. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 higher. Feeder lambs displaying attractive quality sold $2 higher than last week's light offering. Several consignments of feeder lambs displayed less than attractive quality. Receipts were about 55% slaughter ewes, 34% feeder lambs, 10% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 110 to 124 lbs., 96.00 to 100.00 (98.29); 134 to 141 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00 (98.20). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 5 head, 152 lbs., 91.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 6 head, 100 lbs., 101.00 new crop.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 170 to 171 lbs., 37.50 to 39.50 (38.17). Good 3 to 4, 6 head, 211 lbs., 22.00. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 132 to 155 lbs., 32.00 to 37.50 (35.57); 172 to 192 lbs., 30.00 to 34.00 (32.12). Utility and Good 2 to 4, 20 head, 169 lbs., 30.00. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 20 head, 117 lbs., 24.00; 117 to 148 lbs., 23.00 to 27.50 (24.72). Cull 1, 121 to 136 lbs., 16.00 to 20.00 (18.91).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 29 head, 27 lbs., 146.00; 6 head, 33 lbs., 137.00; 35 head, 51 lbs., 141.00; 20 head, 55 to 59 lbs., 111.00 to 113.00 (112.27) short docks; 10 head, 69 lbs., 113.00 short docks; 10 head, 73 lbs., 107.00; 84 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00 (113.97); 11 head, 89 lbs., 92.00 buck lambs; 11 head, 82 lbs., 100.00 short docks. Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 54 lbs., 121.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 17 head, 49 lbs., 124.00; 17 head, 62 lbs., 124.00. Selection 1 to 2, 4 head, 39 lbs., 89.00; 3 head, 55 lbs., 94.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 5 head, 100 lbs., 59.00.
