OKC West livestock auction
The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 8,470 head May 23, compared to 7,286 head last week and 7,851 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 lower, no decline on the large supply over 900 pounds. Feeder heifers were steady. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle with best action on heavier weights. Calves again lightly tested. Steer calves were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were steady. Feeder heifer quality not as attractive as last week with several Brahman cross cattle included. Feeder cattle in medium to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were average to gaunt, few full. The supply consisted of 92% over 600 pounds, 5% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. The total supply included 34% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2.50 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand is moderate following a $6 drop in the cow cut-out. Cow runs have increased as much of the state has dried out and made transportation easier. A total of 236 cows and bulls sold with 61% going to packers.
