OKC West livestock auction

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 8,470 head May 23, compared to 7,286 head last week and 7,851 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 lower, no decline on the large supply over 900 pounds. Feeder heifers were steady. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle with best action on heavier weights. Calves again lightly tested. Steer calves were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were steady. Feeder heifer quality not as attractive as last week with several Brahman cross cattle included. Feeder cattle in medium to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were average to gaunt, few full. The supply consisted of 92% over 600 pounds, 5% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. The total supply included 34% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2.50 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand is moderate following a $6 drop in the cow cut-out. Cow runs have increased as much of the state has dried out and made transportation easier. A total of 236 cows and bulls sold with 61% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 110.50 to 117.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.75 to 112.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 99.75 to 106.00; 900 to 950 lbs., 97.50 to 99.00; 1000 to 1030 lbs., 96.00 to 98.00. Medium and large frame 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 111.75; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.50 to 106.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 99.00 to 101.75; 900 lbs., 94.25; 1090 lbs., 91.50. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few packages 385 to 400 lbs., 94.00; 550 to 575 lbs., 81.00 to 85.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 450 lbs., 110.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 105.00 to 116.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 101.50 to 106.00, 595 lbs., fleshy 95.00; few 600 to 700 lbs., 101.50 to 107.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 97.75 to 103.25; 800 to 875 lbs., 96.50 to 99.50; few 900 to 1000 lbs., 92.75 to 96.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 100.25 to 107.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 92.50 to 100.25; 875 to 900 lbs., 92.50 to 94.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 90.00 to 93.75. Medium and large frame 2, 600 to 650 lbs., 101.00 to 107.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 93.00 to 102.50; 825 lbs., 92.25; 900 lbs., 89.75.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 42 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1075 to 1800 lbs., 51.50 to 55.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 50.00. Boners, 45 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1475 lbs., 53.50 to 57.00; high dressing, 59.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 48.50 to 50.00. Lean, 14 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 50.50 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.50 to 59.50; low dressing, 43.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 30 head, 1400 to 2375 lbs., 65.00 to 68.50; high dressing, 69.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 64.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 800 to 850 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 710.00; 3 to 7 years old, 1075 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, average quality, 710.00 to 790.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 years old, 1075 lbs., with 225-lb. calves, average blacks, 1100.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average blacks, 990.00.
