New Sorghum hybrid, seed treatments offeredDEKALB, St. Louis, Mo., has introduces a new Sorghum hybrid and a new seed treatment to protect against Sorghum pests. The new DEKALB Sorghum hybrid, DKS53-67, is a broadly adapted, medium-to-full-maturity hybrid with a competitive yield advantage in average and above-average yield environments. DKS53-67 features a strong agronomic package with excellent test weight and threshability, excellent plant height and uniformity, and good to excellent standability. Other popular DEKALB Sorghum hybrids, including DKS37-07 and DKS54-00, continue to be industry-leading products in their markets. A new hybrid DKS36-16, was successfully launched in 2006 and is expected to be very popular in 2007. Beginning this year, DEKALB Sorghum hybrids will feature in-the-bag seed treatments with Poncho 600 insecticide, which will provide broad-spectrum control of seven key Sorghum pests, including chinch bugs, green bugs,cornleaf aphids, yellow sugarcane aphids, English grain aphids, wireworms and black cutworms. Seed protected with Poncho seed treatment has produced Sorghum yield increases of up to 34 bushels per acres, compared to untreated plots, according to company literature. Ponchos provides both systemic and contact activity for long-lasting protection from the most important Sorghum pests.
