Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 683 head May 17, compared to 1,359 head two weeks ago, and 310 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter ewes sold fully steady. Feeder lambs were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts included about 73% slaughter ewes, 3% feeder lambs, with the balance open ewes, bred ewes, slaughter bucks, and other miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 89 head, 175 lbs., 29.50. Good 3 to 4, 217 to 223 lbs., 23.50 to 25.00 (23.78). Utility 1 to 2, 52 head, 150 lbs., 29.00. Cull 1, 133 to 138 lbs., 19.00 to 20.75 (20.29); 83 head, 122 lbs., 10.50 thin; 35 head, 173 lbs., 15.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 71 lbs., 91.00 short docks; 11 head, 120 lbs., 86.50. Slaughter bucks: 70 head, 220 to 225 lbs., 24.00 medium to fleshy; 21 head, 207 lbs., 14.50 thin.
