Bed & Berth--an ingenious concept

This month's port of call is the lush, verdant terrain and miles of crystal clear water at Lake Murray State Park in south central Oklahoma.

We are staying overnight in one of the unique floating Vacation Villas at Lake Murray Bed & Berth, whose sea green Cape Cod rooflines compliment the serene waters at Tipps Point Cove. Located less than five minutes from restaurants, golf course and airport at Lake Murray, these luxurious on-the-lake accommodations with their knotty pine vaulted ceilings, dockside verandas and doorstep moorings are a world class adventure we are fortunate to experience.

The original complex has three 1,000 square foot Villas that comfortably accommodate up to eight people in two queen bedrooms and a large sleeping loft accessed by spiral staircase. The full length catwalk stretches to a private lake view balcony. All three Villas have two full baths and a large living/kitchen area with all the amenities of home, including satellite TV.

The 2,400 square foot gazebo, hub from which the Villas fan out, has three connecting studio suites. The East Studio suite has a beautifully functional open living space featuring a fully equipped kitchen, large dining area and access to the party-size veranda dock. It also has one full bath and a sleeping loft with four queen beds. The two West Studio bedroom suites each have a full bath and queen bed downstairs, plus a queen bed loft.

The only fishermen visitors compete with in Tipps Point Cove are the crazy loons. Guests are encouraged to bring their boats and personal watercraft to moor outside the front door for spontaneous fun.

Lake Murray Bed & Berth is becoming an inland island village as it expands to include several new lodging options. Construction is nearly finished on The Atrium Lodge, a 3,000 square foot floating "palace" located across from Tipps Point and accessed near the Park's Lake Murray Lodge.

This enormous retreat has four exclusive rooms with queen beds and private baths, plus a sleeping loft with eight more queen beds. The Great Room has kitchen, dining and living areas to accommodate a huge crowd, plus wraparound veranda with moorings. It is an inspired venue for corporate retreats and family reunions.

Other marina additions will soon include several floating bungalows and "dockominiums" built to accommodate couples or small families. For rates and reservations visit www.oklahomabedandberth.com or call 580-223-0088.
