Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 16, totaled 5,550 head March 17, compared to 7,525 head last week, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher, instances $4 to $6 higher on 500- to 600-pound heifers. Demand was moderate to good for attractive offerings. In the direct trade few comparable sales steady to $1 higher than last week. Direct trade was slow. Offerings light to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 49% of the supply, heifers 51%, with 77% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1600 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 525 to 545 lbs., 116.50 to 127.00; 565 to 570 lbs., 111.00 to 126.00; calves 635 lbs., 111.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 590 lbs., 119.00; 700 lbs., 107.00; 850 lbs., 100.00 to 102.50; 900 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00.
