Tulsa livestock auction report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 3,058 head March 19, compared to 2,159 head last week and 893 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, lightweight steers were $5 to $8 lower with feeder steers steady to $2 higher. Lightweight heifers were $5 to $7 lower with feeder heifers $2 to $4 higher. Demand was very active on better cattle. Buyer attendance was good, cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were mostly average, few fleshy, quality was average to attractive. Receipts were comprised of 50% steers, 46% heifers, 3% bulls, with 23% of cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Active interest in young bred cows, with several young pairs going back to the farm. A total of 390 cows and bulls sold with 53% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 2, 14 head, 313 to 345 lbs., 129.50 to 135.00 (131.21); 365 to 393 lbs., 122.00 to 133.00 (127.40); 400 to 447 lbs., 114.00 to 125.00 (122.11); 16 head, 480 to 498 lbs., 117.50 to 121.00 (119.43).

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 567 to 575 lbs., 112.50 to 117.00 (116.35); 6 head, 600 to 645 lbs., 105.00 to 115.00 (110.68). Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 503 lbs., 115.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 12 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1775 lbs., 50.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 45.50 to 49.00. Boners, 58 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 54.50; low dressing, 44.50 to 48.00. Lean, 48 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1375 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 42.50 to 46.00. Light, 61 head, 85 to 90% lean, 725 to 975 lbs., 41.00 to 44.50; high dressing, 45.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 36.50 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 27 head, 1250 to 2250 lbs., 58.50 to 62.00; high dressing, 62.50 to 66.00; low dressing, 53.50 to 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 4 years old, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 7 month bred, average blacks, 760.00 to 960.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 4 years old, 925 to 1000 lbs., with 75- to 125-lb. calves, average blacks, 960.00 to 1025.00.
