Soy board seeks producer to fill director positionNebraska Nebraska and its' soybean industry have always had a strong tradition of great leadership on the United Soybean Board, and once again are seeking interested producers to fill the USB Director position. The United Soybean Board is made up of 64 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Customer Information Act, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff. USB Directors receive no compensation but are reimbursed for expenses incurred while carrying out Board business. The three-year term for this seat will begin October of 2007. This position is open to all producers in Nebraska and final selection will be made by the USDA Secretary of Agriculture. The USDA has a policy that membership on USDA boards and committees be open to all individuals without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation and marital or family status.
Anyone interested in applying needs to meet the following criteria: --Be involved in a farming operation that raises soybeans; --Be a resident of Nebraska; and --Be at least 21 years of age.
