The Kansas Soybean Commission is seeking qualified candidates to serve as their representatives to the United Soybean Board. Any Kansas resident soybean producer is eligible to apply. The commission will nominate a minimum of two individuals for each of the three positions available, and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns will appoint three of the candidates to the USB. It is the commission's intent to select nominees at their March 30 meeting.

Qualified candidates should possess strong leadership skills and be able to devote the time to attend a minimum of 6 to 10 board meetings and other events each year. USB directors are volunteers and are reimbursed for travel and out-of-pocket expenses. They do not receive a per diem or salary.

Since Sept. 1, 1991, farmers nationwide have contributed one-half of one percent of the price per bushel ofSoybeansto fund soybean promotion and research activities, both at the state and national levels. The USB administers one-half of the national checkoff funds; the other one-half is retained by the KSC who allocates those funds for instate research, market development and education projects.

Interested applicants must complete and return a form to the Kansas Soybean Commission office by the close of business on Monday, March 26, 2007. To receive a confidential application form, call the Kansas Soybean Commission at 800-328-7390, or e-mail requests to information@kansassoybeans.org.
