Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 4,843 head, March 15, compared to 5,247 head, last week and 4,338 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and feeder heifers weighing 300 to 600 pounds were not enough for a market test but a higher undertone was noted. Feeder steers at 600 to 700 pounds were steady to $5 higher, 700 to 900 pounds were steady to $2 higher, and 900 to 1000 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Feeder heifers at 600 to 950 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 higher. Receipts included 85% 600 pounds and over, 12% 600 pounds and under, 3% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 59% steers and 41% heifers.

Bred cows: Per head, Bred 3rd trimester, Medium and large frame 1, young, 5 head, 1130 lbs., 1090.00.

Slaughter cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 46.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 62.75 to 67.75 (64.39).
