Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 537 head March 15, compared to 1,170 head last week and 2,031 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. Feeder lambs trend not applicable due to no comparable sales. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts included about 49% slaughter ewes, 50% feeder lambs, with the balance slaughter bucks and other miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 84 head, 175 lbs., 35.50. Good 3 to 4, 46 head, 197 lbs., 26.75. Utility 1 to 2, 27 head, 160 lbs., 34.00. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 8 head, 193 lbs., 23.00. Cull 1, 37 head, 146 lbs., 20.25. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 20 head, 73 lbs., 114.50; 86 to 87 lbs., 110.00; 18 head, 111 lbs., 94.00 fleshy. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 106 lbs., 95.25.
