Garst adds four Sorghum hybrids for 2007 planting

Garst Seed Company, Slater, Iowa, recently announced the release of four new Garst brand Sorghum hybrids to its 2007 lineup. Three of the four new products are best suited for forage production with the fourth especially suited for grain production.

Garst brand 753BMR+ is a brown midrib forage that delivers excellent yields of high-quality forage with long, wide leaves. This product is extremely versatile, making it a good choice for pasture, hay, silage or green chop. Its excellent standability and photoperiod sensitivity combine to offer tremendous harvest flexibility. 753BMR+ performs best at medium planting rates and in narrow or 30-inch rows.

Garst 311 is a high-yielding conventional forage Sorghum with very good agronomics. At 70-72 days to mid-bloom, this medium-early forage Sorghum produces high grain yields for high grain-to-stover ratios on uniform, medium-height plants.

760BMR is another new brown midrib Sorghum sudangrass from Garst. This medium-full hybrid offers increased digestibility and palatability over conventional Sorghum sudangrasses, making it an excellent choice for haying and grazing cattle. It also has good leaf retention at harvest with very good regrowth after cutting. 760BMR is a widely adapted product and the brown midrib trait provides increased utilization and efficiency.

For grain Sorghum production, Garst 5464 is a medium-full hybrid with excellent yield for maturity, at 68 days to mid-bloom. It also provides excellent plant health and stay green with very good late season agronomics. 5464 delivers high-test weight grain and good drought stress with very good stalk strength under stress.
