Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 767 head March 19, compared to 855 head last week and 120 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady with calves at 400 to 450 pounds selling $2 to $4 higher. The supply included 465 feeder calves, 150 feeder yearlings, 50 replacement cows, 87 slaughter cows, 12 slaughter bulls, and 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 35% English breed and English crosses, 40% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 22% Brahma and Brahman crosses, and 3% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs,. 43.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 52.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 40.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 33.00 to 39.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 47.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.00; low dressing, 41.00 to 46.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 57.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 67.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 140.00 to 155.00 (144.93); 350 to 400 lbs., 130.00 to 142.50 (134.49); 400 to 450 lbs., 130.00 to 138.00 (133.05); 450 to 500 lbs., 126.00 to 135.00 (130.71); 500 to 550 lbs., 120.00 to 134.00 (126.15); 550 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 120.00 (113.74); 600 to 650 lbs., 103.00 to 111.00 (107.61); 650 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00 (103.50). Medium and large frame 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 127.50 to 137.50 (133.00); 350 to 400 lbs., 115.00 to 132.00 (123.87); 400 to 450 lbs., 113.00 to 125.00 (120.00); 450 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 120.00 (116.59); 500 to 550 lbs., 95.00 to 119.00 (111.50); 550 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 115.00 (112.99).

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 700 to 1150 lbs., open cows, 60.00 to 79.00; 4 to 7 years old, 900 to 1200 lbs., open cows, 54.00 to 64.00; 7+ years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., open cows, 45.00 to 51.50; 4 to 6 years old, 800 to 1100 lbs., second stage bred, 54.00 to 56.00; 2 to 6 years old, 700 to 1100 lbs., third stage bred, 50.00 to 71.00.
