Dedication unsurpassedAs spring temperatures creep across the area, winter seems a long ago memory for many of us. But for many livestock producers, the past winter months are a scary reality that won't easily be forgotten. In these trying times, producers have done whatever it took to get their job done. The sacrifices have been great and many. So many times the work that you do as agricultural producers goes unnoticed. But as a company, we wanted to pause and say, "Job well done." You have done whatever it took to make it through. You've sacrificed and you've given of yourself for your family and your business. We know that it isn't over for many of you. It would be easy for you to hang your heads with worry and frustration. Instead, you look at mud and see tall grass and abundant crops in the future. You look at thin cows with small calves and are grateful they are still alive. To other industries, a situation like this might be devastating. But your perseverance has shown through and we shouldn't be surprised. One of our livestock representatives, Rod Swafford, spends his days talking to cattle producers. Here's how he describes the situation: "I admire the cattlemen and their families who have given their all trying to take care of their stock--not just the hours and work that they have put in, but the financial burden it has placed on these folks. Some of them have spent money they had planned on for vacations, college funds and retirement, to buy hay and extra feeding equipment . To these dedicated livestock producers it is not just a business--it is their life." I couldn't have said it better myself. It is times like these, when the High Plains Journal staff is proud to work with you. Your dedication and devotion to agriculture and your business is unsurpassed.
