Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 4,941 head March 5, compared to 3,734 head last week and 4,217 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $3 to $5 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. Slaughter cows were mostly steady. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 lower on a limited test. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 95% and slaughter cows and bulls 5% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 60% of the run, heifers 40%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 89%.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.50 to 51.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 40.00 to 41.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1770 to 1960 lbs., 62.00 to 65.00, few; high dressing, 2060 lbs., 69.50, individual; low dressing, 1430 to 1890 lbs., 54.00 to 59.00, few.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle age, 890 to 1445 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred 685.00 to 785.00 per head; middle age to aged, 890 to 1101 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred 510.00 to 690.00 per head.
