Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 26, totaled 1,950 head, compared to 3,600 head last week and 2,150 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trade was slow with no good price comparison available. Offerings were light. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 50% of the supply, heifers 50%, with 85% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 550 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 515 to 585 lbs., 126.00 to 137.00; 620 to 650 lbs., 115.00 to 119.50; 700 lbs., 112.75; 810 to 835 lbs., 100.00 to 106.00; 935 to 1000 lbs., 94.75 to 100.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, delivered price, 785 lbs., 109.85; 850 lbs., 109.35; 950 lbs., 99.50.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 510 to 590 lbs., 111.00 to 119.25; 645 lbs., 111.00; 750 to 770 lbs., 105.25 to 108.00; 820 to 880 lbs., 90.00 to 105.75, mostly 99.75 to 105.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 475 lbs., 116.00 to 117.75; 550 lbs., 114.50; 750 lbs., 96.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 750 to 775 lbs., 96.40 to 103.00. Delivered price, 750 lbs., 104.25.
