West Plains regional salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,100 head May 29, compared to 3,242 head last week and 1,836 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture to USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, with most 450 to 550 pound steers $2 to $4 lower. However, several bunches 450- to 550-weight heifers were able to regain $1 to $2 later in the sale, as buyers commence pushing in order to level their loads. The supply was light, following the holiday weekend, front-end quality not nearly as deep. Demand was moderate to good. Several larger producers of both calves and yearlings indicating plans to cut 'em loose in next couple of weeks. Buyer attendance good. The supply consisted of 46% steers and 54% heifers, with nearly 37% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 270 to 300 lbs., 145.00 to 154.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 134.00 to 145.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 126.00 to 133.00, few thin/weaned near 400 lbs., 133.00 to 141.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 118.00 to 124.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 114.00 to 123.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 112.00 to 120.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 107.50 to 116.50; small package 765 lbs., 106.00.
