WSGA--135 years advocating, informing, and educating

Wyoming

The Wyoming Stock Growers Association and Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show will be held in Riverton at the Holiday Inn May 30-June 2. The theme of the convention indicates another important milestone for the association--"WSGA--135 Years Advocating, Informing, and Educating."

As one astute observer has advised: "Read the history of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and you will have read not only the history of the state of Wyoming, but the history of territorial Wyoming and even of the rugged frontier of the pre-territorial days." The men and women, who, in 1872, founded WSGA and nurtured it during the first uncertain decades of its existence were the same men and women who carved the Territory of Wyoming out of the wilderness, and officiated at the birth of the state.

The 2007 WSGA Summer Convention and Trade Show will celebrate the 35 years since WSGA passed its centennial year in 1972. This new century began with Bruce von Forell assuming the presidency of WSGA, becoming the youngest man in the history of the organization to hold that position. The selection of von Forell pointed to an even deeper awareness among the members of the association that it was imperative to encourage the most precious of all resources in agriculture and youth.

The next 35 years showed some changes in the association and agriculture in Wyoming. Some issues have not changed, while others are new to the table. This summer WSGA will meet again to discuss issues old and new. All cattle producers are welcome to attend. The convention is not limited to those with a WSGA membership.
