Three men nominated to fill District II vacancy

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma wheat Commission held a public election to fill elections for the District II seat on May 24 in Guymon, Okla. The three men were: Tom Stephens, Guymon; Leon Richards, Turpin; and Clark Thayer, Guymon. All wheat producers within District II boundaries who are actively engaged in wheat production and marketed wheat, paid a check-off fee and left that fee with the Commission for the current year were eligible to vote.

Stephens is the current chairman of the Oklahoma wheat Commission board. He has been farming for 45 years and maintains 8,000 acres, with 3,000 acres dedicated to wheat. Richards also has 3,000 acres of wheat and has spent 28 years in the business of farming. Thayer, an Oklahoma country resident, has spent 34 years as a farmer tending to his 2,600 acre farm.

The three nominations made at the election will be given to the governor of Oklahoma from which he will appoint one person to fill the last two years of the unexpired term with the Oklahoma wheat Commission.

Every wheat producer in the district was urged to participate in the important election. For further information, contact the OWC office at 405-605-4350.
