Sioux Falls sheep sale
The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 796 head May 29, compared to 888 head last week and 515 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to weak on a light test. Slaughter ewes sold mostly $2 to $4 lower. Feeder lambs sold unevenly steady. As usual short docked lambs resulted in large discounts. Receipts included about 42% feeder lambs, 28% slaughter ewes, 15% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 9 head, 103 to 108 lbs., 93.00 to 94.00 (93.32); 6 head, 129 lbs., 93.50; 10 head, 124 lbs., 88.00 full. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 137 to 144 lbs., 93.50 to 98.00 (96.74); 25 head, 130 lbs., 100.50 new crop. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 160 to 180 lbs., 29.50 to 33.50 (31.58). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 9 head, 174 to 178 lbs., 27.00 to 29.00 (27.90). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 18 head, 153 to 158 lbs., 24.00 to 26.00 (25.33). Cull 1, 118 to 146 lbs., 20.50 to 25.00 (22.82). Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 4 head, 36 lbs., 126.00; 47 to 49 lbs., 127.00 to 134.00 (132.22); 61 to 66 lbs., 129.00 to 130.00 (129.61); 70 to 76 lbs., 109.00 to 119.00 (113.92); 30 head, 89 lbs., 116.00; 15 head, 80 to 84 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00 (100.77) short docks; 33 head, 92 lbs., 112.00; 6 head, 90 lbs., 89.00 short docks. Medium and large frame 2, 17 head, 57 lbs., 119.00 Aged feeding ewes: Thin, per cwt., 32 head, 126 to 139 lbs., 21.00. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 42 to 49 lbs., 115.00 to 116.00 (115.64).
