Rodeo brings Old West back to lifeCelebrating our 21st anniversary this year, the Beef Empire Days PRCA Rodeo has attracted top cowboys and cowgirls from around the country since its beginning in 1986. Last year more than 75 world champions participated in the highly competitive event. The rodeo passes down a tradition in the truest sense of the word by bringing the Old West back to life for all to enjoy. Of the over 900 rodeos sanctioned by the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), the non-profit, self-supporting Beef Empire Days PRCA Rodeo is one of the richest three-day performance events. This year's rodeo has been rated 42nd in the nation by the PRCA with a pay out of more than $120,000. The rodeo is a member of the Prairie Circuit and was voted "Rodeo of the Year" in 2005 by the organization. The Prairie Circuit awards are voted on by the rodeo contestants themselves and the organizers are especially proud of the award since they were chosen over rodeos the caliber of the Guymon Pioneer Days and the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo. The $2.6 million covered grandstand provides over 4,100 seats in one of the best rodeo arenas in the country. As the largest community event held in Garden City, Kan., the Beef Empire Days PRCA Rodeo's economic impact to the community is over $2 million per year. None Date: 5/25/07
