Pratt Livestock report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 2,780 head, May 24, compared to 5,332 head, last week and 4,197 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and feeder heifers weighing 300 to 750 pounds were not enough for market test but a lower undertone was noted. Feeder steers at 750 to 850 pounds were $2 to $3 lower, 850 to 900 pounds were steady, and 900 to 1000 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Feeder heifers at 750 to 850 pounds were steady to $1 lower, 850 to 900 pounds were $4 higher, and 900 to 950 pounds were steady. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Receipts included 82% 600 lbs., and over, 10% 600 pounds and under, 8% cows And bulls. The feeder supply was 60% steers and 40% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 108.50 to 109.00 (108.75); 49 head, 768 lbs., 104.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 100.00 to 102.75 (101.97); 850 to 900 lbs., 103.75 to 104.00 (103.86). Feeder cows and heiferettes: 57 head, 70.00 to 89.00 (77.84).

Pairs: Per pair, Medium and large frame 1, young, 15 pairs, 1130 to 1190 (1166) lbs., with 175- to 225-lb. calves, 1140.00 to 1150.00 (1146.12); 29 pairs, 1210 to 1270 (1240) with 175- to 225-lb. calves, 1165.00 to 1235.00 (1190.83).

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 58.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 50.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 63.00 to 68.00 (66.35); high dressing, 69.50 to 74.50 (70.78); low dressing, 55.00 to 60.00 (58.33).
