Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,597 head May 24, compared to 683 head last week and 1,745 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 higher, except cull ewes sold weak. Feeder lambs trend not applicable, however more liberal numbers of attractive new crop lambs were present in the offerings. Demand was good on all classes except cull ewes were moderate. Receipts about 20% slaughter ewes, 78% feeder lambs, with the balance open/late ewes, slaughter bucks, and other miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 145 head, 171 lbs., 30.75. Good 3 to 4, 39 head, 210 lbs., 22.25. Utility 1 to 2, 62 head, 153 lbs., 29.75. Cull 1, 57 head, 132 lbs., 18.75; 12 head, 164 lbs., 14.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 53 head, 67 lbs., 119.00; 85 head, 86 lbs., 109.00 to 110.75 (110.34); 30 head, 89 lbs., 106.25 fleshy; 91 to 94 lbs., 110.50 to 110.75 (110.71); 45 head, 108 lbs., 109.00; 111 to 114 lbs., 106.25 to 107.75 (106.49); 15 head, 116 lbs., 76.00 old crop; 139 head, 127 lbs., 105.00; 7 head, 124 lbs., 79.00 old crop; 233 head, 137 lbs., 103.00; 164 head, 141 lbs., 103.50; 7 head, 142 lbs., 78.00 old crop. Medium frame 1 to 2, 25 head, 103 lbs., 100.00. Slaughter bucks: 20 head, 227 lbs., 23.25 fleshy; 8 head, 174 lbs., 14.25 thin.
