Jolene Brown to speak at Sandhills Cattle Association conventioNebraska Jolene Brown, is a real "Farmer Brown" from West Branch, La., who will discuss the challenges of families working together during the Sandhills Cattle Association's 68th Annual Convention on May 24 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine, Neb. Brown is making her second appearance at a Sandhills Cattle Association convention as a result of many requests for her return. She uniquely understands the hearts, homes and the business of agriculture. Her messages are guaranteed to bring helpful ideas to put into action and something good to talk about in the days to come. She is a highly regarded professional public speaker who has earned the highest designation of speaking achievement from the National Speakers Association. She has made appearances around the world and been repeatedly asked back to speak. Along with her professional speaking, Brown blends many different roles: farm partner with husband Keith, mom of two daughters and she is an avid supporter of community and church activities. Her real life stories have been gathered from every day life and shared with people throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. "Lions & Tigers & Family, Oh My! Pitfalls & Snares that Break Up A Family & Business," is the title of Brown's upbeat workshop that provides great insight and practical ideas to improve profitability and productivity in businesses. She will discuss in-laws and out-laws, off-site family and estates, generational differences and ways to reward those who are involved in the business. From conversations to contracts, from assumptions to clarification, from complaints to celebrations, this workshop will open eyes and save fighting on the way to the funeral home. Brown closes the day's presentations with "It's a Jungle Out There--Blazing New Trails for Agriculture!" With environmental regulations, animal welfare issues, traceability, labor concerns, food safety questions, global markets and more, the pace, the people, the process and the products of agriculture have all changed and it's time to blaze a new trail. During this eye opening presentation find out what today's customers are really buying and understand the power behind the statement, "People like doing business with people who like what they do!" Brown's workshop is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m., following lunch and the annual SCA membership meeting. Her appearance is made possible with the generous support of Agri Affiliates Inc., North Platte, Neb., and the First National Bank of Valentine. The convention will also include presentations by Connee Quinn of Elanco discussing, "Your Calves are Some One Else's Investment," Dave Sands of the Nebraska Land Trust will talk about, "Easements: a Private Path to Permanent Protection," and ranchers Tanya Storer and Sherry Vinton of Whitman will discuss "Cowboy Logic: Questions Concerning Conservation Easements." Association members will elect officers and directors for the coming year and scholarship winners will be announced. There will be an industry trade show with over 70 exhibits of ranch related products and services. The Heart City Heartwarmers will provide entertainment during the trade show. The annual benefit auction will conclude the day's activities. For more information or to register, contact the Sandhills Cattle Association office at 1-800-658-0551 or 402-376-2310.
