Springfield dairy cattle salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 4,490 head June 16, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. This was a special (WLAC) World Livestock Auctioneers Championship sale. Compared to week, steers were $3 to $6 higher. Holsteins under 700 pounds were $2 to $3 lower, over 700 pounds were steady, heifers were $2.00 to $4 higher. Demand was moderate to good, best for calves suitable for northern feeders and yearlings. Weigh-up and flesh conditions favorable to buyers. Springfield Livestock Marketing Center was host to the 2007 LMA World Livestock Auctioneer Championship. An over-flow crowd of buyers, producers and spectators were on hand to see thirty three of the world's top livestock auctioneers in action. Each contestant had to qualify through a regional competition to earn a chance to become World Champion. The feeder supply included 43% steers, 11% Holsteins, 46% heifers, with 63% over 600 pounds. Nearly 3% of the offering were bred heifers and slaughter cows.
