Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., June 18, reported receipts of 708 head of sheep and goats, compared to 1,099 head last week and 1,058 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs too few for an accurate market test, however, a lower undertone was noted on both classes. Buyer attendance and demand were moderate to good. Receipts included about 50% slaughter lambs, 24% feeder lambs, 22% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 5 head, 140 lbs., 105.00. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 14 head, 111 lbs., 100.00. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 133 to 144 lbs., 100.00 to 104.50 (103.86). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 6 head, 113 lbs., 97.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 3 head, 158 lbs., 22.00; 120 to 149 lbs., 31.00 gaunt; 17 head, 171 to 186 lbs., 25.00 to 27.00 (25.44); 8 head, 187 lbs., 20.00 full. Good 2 to 4, 14 head, 208 to 225 lbs., 16.00. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 5 head, 159 lbs., 19.50. Cull 1, 116 to 146 lbs., 18.00 to 20.50 (19.03).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 43 lbs., 120.00; 22 head, 57 lbs., 127.00; 8 head, 71 lbs., 115.00; 54 head, 107 lbs., 105.75 fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 16 head, 62 lbs., 109.00; 33 head, 78 lbs., 100.00. Small frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 55 lbs., 80.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1 to 2, 11 head, 40 lbs., 60.00; 11 head, 57 lbs., 80.00.

Slaughter yearlings: Selection 1 to 2, 13 head, 93 lbs., 70.50.

Feeder kids: Selection 1, 18 head, 32 lbs., 90.00.
